Hong Kong

Have you ever been to the Hong Kong Disney Land or to Victoria Peak?  Hong Kong is a city  in the Southeastern of China. The name “Hong Kong” means Fragrant Harbour. Before 1842, Hong Kong is known as Hakka meaning Little Hong Kong the place where the fishermen and British sailors had the war. This is a small inlet now known as Aberdeen Harbour.

Hong Kong’s population is 7.188 million. To fly to Hong Kong from New Zealand it takes about 11 hours and 35 minutes. Wow that is pretty long up in air. In Hong Kong, if the time in New Zealand would be about 5:54pm in Hong Kong it would be 1:54pm. Hong Kong is 4 hours behind New Zealand time. Hong Kong used to be a British territory but now is a big China City.

Hong Kong is a very big and busy city to live in and also a lovely one. Hong Kong is about 1,092 square km. which means it is 6 times the size of Washington DC. The Languages spoken in Hong Kong are mostly Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese)  and English. If you lived in Hong Kong your nationality would then be Chinese or Hong Konger. Hong Kong's national symbol is the orchid tree flower.

Hong Kong has the most skyscrapers just like New York! In Hong Kong there is a festival they celebrate every year between April-May. This Festival is called a bun festival and it’s meant to keep the starving ghost from staying on their island. In the festival they have made a tower, which is made up of buns but is actually plastic instead of baked.

Hong Kong money is in rank 8 for having the most traded money in the world. In Hong Kong they mostly eat noodles and the noodles cost about $20 and tea is sometimes for free. Hong Kong people eat noodles mostly on birthday’s which means  to have a blessed and long life.

Living in Hong Kong is a beautiful place to be in due to its beautiful view of fireworks, skyscrapers, coloured lights, food, festivals and more.

Daffodil Day for the Cancer Society

Have you seen those children with cancer and wondered if you could help them? Well lucky for you, there is a way to help because in New Zealand there is a charity for the cancer people and they are called the Cancer Society. On the 28th of August it was Daffodil day where people sell daffodil things to help fundraise, because these children have a chance of dying so that is why our scientists are now looking for a medicine to cure it. Daffodil day only happens once a year and you could make a use of it by donating a bit of money to help these children or giving a helping hand. If you want to give a helping hand then you can enroll a form for yourself and sell Daffodils for a cheap price which would really help, because the charity need people like you so that they have enough help to really fight for these children. People chose daffodils as a symbol because they thought that the bright yellow colour was a very appropriate one. Also they think that it represents, the hope that there is for the 1 in 3 New Zealand children with cancer.

If you would like to help these children by donating or giving a helping hand for next year 2016 here is a website down below. Although this isn’t an updated one but you can check it out and if you want to see the real website wait until next year on daffodil day and search up “Daffodil Day 2016”. Thank-you

Ice-Cream Chart for Maths

These are our graphs for our Ice-Cream Chart and these are the results:
Room 4's favourite Ice-cream was Cookies n' Cream because of it's flavour and the results for that was 18.
Room 4's least favourite Ice-cream was Boysenberry because only 3 people liked it.
Therefore we conclude Room 4's favourite Ice-cream is Cookies n' Cream but there are a variety of flavours they like too.

Foods and Brands containing Palm Oil

Some of these brands may taste delicious but they have Palm Oil so help stop these brands from adding more and more palm oil. This is wasting Orangutan's lives and also because they have nearly become extinct. Except you can help stop that by protecting them and other animals who are affected by Palm Oil.

Chocolate .Vs. Child Labour

Who would you rather stand up for? The children who are working so hard, but then at the same time are getting abused. Or for the chocolate that you eat? Do you know the ugliness side behind chocolate.

Do you know, who is collecting the cocoa nibs to help make all your favourite chocolates? For example: KitKat, Mars, Hershey’s, Moro Bar, Snickers etc, because if you didn’t know about this then you can learn more about it.

Children mainly boys at the age of 12-16yrs are being forced and enslaved, to work in cocoa farms in order to collect the beans. These boys are mostly found from Mali, West Africa, Ivory Coast, Ghana etc.

Why did this become such a big issue? Well it became a big issue, because the chocolate manufacturers  ignored that they were forcing children to do and make chocolate. So they told the world incorrect facts, because they are more concerned about the profit and economic gaining.

I think this should stop because Child Labour is not good. People can help with chocolate brands changing their ingredients and not to include cocoa nibs. These Children need a voice and I am their voice.
